Signs That Your Tankless Water Heater Needs Repair

tankless-water-heater

If you’ve chosen to have a tankless water heater installed on your property, it’s probably due to their high energy efficiency and effectiveness at providing you with hot water throughout your home. Tankless systems are much more capable than their storage tank counterparts of handling periods when you’re away, as they aren’t as susceptible to heat loss and water waste.

Tankless water heaters in Cedar Falls help numerous homeowners throughout the country save a lot of energy, which equates to lower utility bills. However, tankless water heaters are not immune to repair needs. When these needs crop up, you want a team on your side to get the system back to its full functionality. We are that team.

Of course, it also helps to know some of the signs that you do in fact need repairs. Read on to learn more!

No Hot Water

This may seem apparent, but must be said anyway. If your faucets are only providing you with cold or lukewarm water, then there’s probably an issue with the heat exchanger. Or you may have a problem with the fuel source, whether you have a gas-powered system or an electric system.

It could also be that the heat exchanger is coated with mineral buildup–the result of hard water flowing through the system with calcium and magnesium. These minerals are harmless to ingest but are more harmful to your plumbing system. Your water heater is no exception!

No matter the cause of the lack of hot water, though, our professionals can help resolve it.

Leaking

The good news is that leaks from a tankless water heater are a little less catastrophic than a leak from a storage-tank water heater–the latter almost always means that the water heater needs to be replaced. The only place you should ever see water dripping from is the pressure relief valve. Anything beyond this is bad news.

That said, water leaking from a tankless system certainly shouldn’t be ignored. It could happen due to poor installation or some other problem. It could even be a covered manufacturer defect. The best thing to do to prevent property damage and water waste is to contact our professionals as soon as you notice a leak.

Strange Noises

Have you heard what sounds like a gurgling or bubbling sound? This could be the sign of a leak. Or how about a groaning or hissing noise? This may be indicative of a cracked heat exchanger, in the case of a gas-powered tankless water heater. This can be a dangerous problem, so it’s very important that you call for professional help right away if you discover the noise!

Whatever sounds your tankless water heater is making that can’t be associated with the normal function of the system is something that requires a service call. So if you do notice an odd noise, shut your water heater down and call for repairs as soon as you can.
