If you’ve followed our blog for very long, you’ve probably seen us mention maintenance once or twice. Okay, maybe more than that.
The thing is, maintenance is absolutely vital to keeping your heating and cooling systems in great shape. Tune-ups help your air conditioner and furnace work as efficiently and effectively as possible, for as long as possible. We typically recommend air conditioning maintenance be done in the fall since this is right before you need the system the most.
Seeing as it is now late summer and temperatures are going to start cooling down soon, is it too late to schedule air conditioner maintenance? NO, actually!
We do suggest that our customers have air conditioner maintenance done before summer begins. The truth is that it doesn’t matter when you have it done as long as you’re having it professionally tuned up at least once a year–twice a year if you’re using a heat pump system. Consistency matters the most here. Read on to learn why you should make this service a priority in your household.
You Could Pay More For Cooling Without It
On average, every year that your air conditioning system goes without its routine maintenance tune-up, it can lose about 5% of its efficiency rating, and this decline gets steeper as the years go on. You will find yourself paying more to use your air conditioner as your air conditioner runs longer to do its job because the system is struggling.
With maintenance, your air conditioner may be able to retain up to 95% of its original efficiency rating! This efficiency rating is measured by SEER–Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. The higher the SEER, the more efficient the air conditioner is. But if you skip maintenance, that SEER rating won’t mean much.
Maintenance Can Prevent Sudden Repair Needs and Breakdowns
Perhaps the most immediate advantage of having air conditioning maintenance done on a routine basis is that it prevents your system from suddenly shutting down on you during a soaring hot day. There could be plenty more of those coming, even this year.
It’s estimated that routine maintenance can help prevent up to 85% of the repair costs that an air conditioner may ever need. You don’t want to spend unnecessary money that should instead be used to enjoy what’s left of summer on your air conditioner, right?
No matter what time of the year we are in, if you take the proper precautions with professional and timely maintenance, then you don’t have to worry about repair needs cropping up out of nowhere.
Your System Will Last Longer
The average useful service life of an air conditioner is about 10-15 years. But without maintenance, we simply can’t promise this for you. Maintenance helps air conditioners perform more powerfully and efficiently and, by reducing repair needs, all this helps the unit last longer.
Without maintenance, that lifespan could be cut in half!
